Out of the humble beginnings of 'Radio Ramadhan Birmingham' comes the phoenix of Unity FM, a non-profit making Community Radio station serving the needs of some of the most deprived wards in Birmingham. We have a particular focus on the diverse Muslim communities within the city.
Unity FM is powered by the passion of our volunteers all wanting to see their local communities thrive. With its blend of mainly speech-based broadcast (in English but with provision for numerous community languages) we aim to get to grips with the issues that really affect our communities. We provide a voice for our community, opportunities for honest debate and discussion, encourage community cohesion, facilitate volunteering and citizenship as well as help those wanting to work more closely with our communities.
So whether you've been with us from the old 'Radio Ramadhan' days or have only recently tuned in - don't just sit back – be a part of our exciting journey! Unity FM aims to build:"a confident community at ease with itself where individuals live together in harmony." Unity FM wants to become: “ a catalyst for change for its listeners and the community its serves as well as the partners it works with.” Unity FM Aims to:
Increase aspirations for young people and women in the community Improve engagement of public services within our community Provide a forum for open, fair and honest debate within our community Provide training, volunteering and employment opportunities to members of our community Reduce tension between ethnic and religious groups within our community
